PERU - UPPER AMAZON EXPEDITIONS
In conjunction with our Preferred Partners Lindblad Expeditions and Delfin Amazon Cruises
Peru’s upper Amazon, reached from Iquitos, winds through blackwater and whitewater rivers, flooded forests, and the vast Pacaya Samiria Reserve. Life here is shaped by the river. Small ribereño and Indigenous communities, including Kukama and Yagua, fish, farm seasonal islands, and weave beautiful textiles and baskets. Visits are low key and led by local guides who know these waterways well.
Wildlife is the star. From skiffs you may see pink and gray river dolphins, squirrel and howler monkeys, three toed sloths, capybaras, caiman, and with luck giant river otters. Birding is excellent too, with macaws and toucans overhead, hoatzins in the lagoons, and kingfishers flashing along the banks.
Days are active and for every fitness level. Think dawn and dusk skiff safaris, guided forest walks on firm ground or boardwalks, kayaking or paddleboarding on quiet creeks, catch and release piranha fishing, and night outings with spotlights to find nocturnal life. Cultural stops at a school, a market, or a craft demonstration add context to the wildlife.
We partner with Lindblad Expeditions and Delfin Amazon Cruises. When you book through Britt & Co Travel, you receive exclusive privileges available only to our clients. Both offer true five star luxury small ships with three to seven night itineraries, expert naturalists, comfortable suites, and locally sourced, sustainable cuisine. It’s a luxurious way to see the Amazon in a short time, while staying close to nature.
